Wow, where do I even begin. This movie completely caught me off guard and I'm still thinking about it days later. I sat through the entire credits just staring at the screen, then got home and laid in bed thinking about it before I could even fall asleep.
It's written and directed by Curry Barker, and the less I say the better. Just know it starts with a wish and goes places you won't see coming.
What stood out most is how it skips the usual playbook. No cheap jump scares, no plot you can see coming. The horror comes from something way more uncomfortable, and the romance side is what makes it hit so hard. There's a real stretch where it plays like an actual love story, all warmth and butterflies, but there are little signs from the very start that something isn't right, even if you don't clock them until later.
From a cinematic perspective it's a treat too. Shot in this boxy 1.50:1 ratio, making every space feel tighter than it should. The color grading leans dingy brown and heavy shadow, even daytime scenes feel coated in something you can't wash off.
And the soundtrack is having a moment of its own right now. Rock Burwell's score is full of warm strings that sound straight out of a romance movie with a low rumble underneath that never lets up, and the track "Love is in the Air, Pt. 1" has been everywhere online since the movie dropped. Once you've seen the movie, you'll never hear that song the same way again.
If you want horror that sticks with you for days, this is the one. Go see it in theaters, and go in blind.
